1. Overview
MeridianClip is a Chrome extension built by MERIDIAN (Meridian Technologies Inc.). It is local-first by design. In its default mode, all data stays on your device. Nothing is transmitted to any server unless you explicitly choose to connect to the Meridian platform.
2. What Data Is Collected
When you copy text on a webpage (Ctrl+C / Cmd+C), MeridianClip captures:
- The text you selected and copied
- The URL of the page where you copied it
- The title of that page
- A timestamp of when the copy occurred
- The detected content type (URL, code, or text)
MeridianClip does not read your clipboard in the background. It only captures text when you actively perform a copy action.
3. Local Storage (Default Mode)
By default, all captured clips are stored in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). This data:
- Never leaves your device
- Is not transmitted to any server
- Is not accessible to MERIDIAN, Covault Technologies, or any third party
- Is stored only in your Chrome profile
4. Connected Mode (Opt-In)
You may choose to connect MeridianClip to the Meridian intelligence platform by providing a server URL, username, and PIN in the extension settings. When connected:
- Clips are sent to the Meridian server you specify (default:
meridian.covault.xyz) - Clips are also retained in local storage
- Authentication uses PBKDF2-SHA256 hashed PINs (600,000 iterations)
- You can disconnect at any time — local clips remain, server sync stops immediately
Connected mode is entirely optional. The extension is fully functional without it.
5. Content Type Detection
MeridianClip automatically classifies clips as URL, code, or text. This classification happens entirely on your device using pattern matching in the extension's background worker. No data is sent to any external service for classification.
6. Sensitive Content
MeridianClip does not currently auto-detect or exclude sensitive content such as passwords, API keys, or credentials from capture. If you copy sensitive content, it will be stored in your local clip history (and synced to the server if in connected mode).
We recommend disabling capture via the toggle in the popup before copying sensitive credentials.
7. Tracking & Analytics
MeridianClip contains:
- No analytics — no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no telemetry
- No tracking pixels
- No cookies
- No third-party SDKs
- No fingerprinting
8. Data Retention
- Local mode: Clips persist until you clear them or the 500-clip cap is reached (oldest clips are removed first)
- Connected mode: Server-side clips follow the Meridian platform's data retention policy. You may request deletion at any time.
9. Your Rights
You can at any time:
- Disable capture — toggle off in the popup footer
- Disconnect from Meridian — click "Disconnect" in the popup (local clips remain)
- Clear local data — remove the extension or clear Chrome extension storage
- Request server deletion — email [email protected] to delete your server-side data
- Uninstall — removing the extension deletes all local clip data
10. Third-Party Services
In local mode, MeridianClip communicates with no third-party services. In connected mode, it communicates only with the Meridian server you configure. No data is shared with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics providers.
11. Children's Privacy
MeridianClip is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided data through this extension, contact us at [email protected].
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the extension's functionality. Significant changes will be communicated through the extension's update notes in the Chrome Web Store. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates the most recent revision.
